If you've never heard of Minecraft then this may not mean anything to you. But let me tell you...this is the ideal weapon to save yourself from the zombie apocalypse.

Courgette Chips and Mayonnaise

Damn it. I have just realised that these are accidentally kind of healthy, so dip in plenty of mayonnaise.

The Marsh Trophy

May 21, 2012

2

On Friday George played his first 2 matches for Ambergate Under 11's Kwik Cricket Team. Then on to Heage to the Marsh Trophy Cub Camp Competition. When a tired, grubby, but happy George arrived home we edited the movie we made and created a soundtrack with camp based sound effects. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Angry Birds

March 26, 2012

15

This was a true family project. George wanted to make some Angry Birds for his homework this week. There was help from Mum on the modelling, using Sugru covered bouncy balls, then some time in the workshop with Dad making the catapult. It works really well..a bit too well, as there are now birds bouncing all […]

A ‘Green’ Blue Peter Badge

November 28, 2011

9

Our boy is pleased as punch today because this: …arrived in the post this morning. It’s 5 months since he rescued Ray The Bird. George wrote a post about it, but it was our Twitter friend @LicklePickle that suggested writing to Blue Peter to see if it might earn him a badge: Since Ray flew away George […]

A Teeny Pond & Ray the Bird

June 23, 2011

12

Hello everyone, George here. This weeks homework word was ‘Pond’ so I decided to build a miniature pond in the garden. I used a stone trough that I used to grow some little plants in. First I filled it with soil then I collected moss from around the garden to make some grass. Next I […]

This is George’s idea of a good time. Sometimes it’s easier not to ask “why?” I just take the photos.

Treehouse

April 28, 2011

8

I had two projects in mind during this years extended Easter break; a treehouse for George that was promised but not delivered last summer and secondly growing a beard.  One of these projects is lacking in structure, not adding any visual amenity to the surroundings and generally progressing haphazardly without direction; thankfully the treehouse went […]

Green

February 24, 2011

My Teacher Mrs Brookes sets us homework every week. She gives us one word and we can do what we want with it. This week the word was ‘Green’. I wanted to do some painting so I got Dad to spray over an old canvas with his new paint sprayer. First I drawed squiggles all […]

Happy Birthday, Boy

December 11, 2010

Today is the boy’s 9th birthday. George requested a chocolate cake. His wish is my command. I can’t believe where the last 9 years have gone. I made Nigella’s Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake and it looks lovely. We can’t try it yet though as we are off to The Lego Discovery Centre. We tasted a […]

Catapult

May 25, 2010

7

There once was a boy who dreamed of his own catapult. Then he remembered this… His Dangerous Book for Boys has instructions for all manner of things. Including how to make a catapult. Ed was employed to assist in the design, here you can see the ‘technical drawing’. And the offcuts from the branch cut […]

Bluebell Woods

May 12, 2010

6

I was asked to tag along on with the school kids yesterday to our local woods. We set off first thing and it looked like we had lucked out with a sunny morning. The children were tasked with writing about the outdoors and finding similes, rhymes and alliteration. Some of them set about the task very […]

An open and shut case

February 6, 2010

1

A couple of weeks ago George announced he needed a new pencil case, so when a trip to Staples drew a blank I decided this was a thing we could make ourselves. In fact we made one each, which we worked on together (at least until George go bored of it anyway). The design is […]
