We do like a fruity loaf. I made up this recipe on the hoof but it worked out just right for Sunday breakfast.

I am really very pleased with this recipe; I think it worked out rather well. Creamy and wobbly and rich with coffee flavours.

Oh really...more oven baked pancakes? I know, I know, but this one is another winner. I promise. It's a good way to turn a crisp green apple into a decadent dessert for two or a greedy breakfast for one. What's not to like?

I am not sharing this because it’s healthy. I am not sharing this because it’s pretty. It’s not even a clever or complicated dish. In fact…you could say that it’s just a big sausage roll. Point taken. I wanted to show you a quick flaky pastry recipe that I think is easier to make than […]

A simple lunch of baked eggs...with a side order of pancetta and some crusty bread.

A loaf cake flavoured with orange, moistened with orange and golden syrup and drizzled with orange icing.

Oh, I almost forgot. Here is my vague nod towards Easter chocolatiness. Fresh popcorn, drizzled with melted white chocolate, sprinkled with ‘hundreds and thousands’, a pinch of salt and Cadbury’s mini eggs. Good for Easter weekend movie viewing. Happy Easter.

The idea of smooshing fresh raspberries into a simple coconut macaroon is inspired. These are delicious: fruity, soft and chewy all at the same time.

Following some testing, tasting and general gluttony I am pleased to introduce you to this Mocha Fudge Ice Cream. If you read My First Ice Cream post you will know that I was not completely happy with my results from the “Best ever chocolate ice cream” recipe by Cenk Cafe Fernando. Several people who made it ended up with […]

It was a dreary wet morning in Derbyshire, so I set about the housework. The rainy skies and domestic chores left me feeling that I needed a tasty lunch to perk me up. I scoured the kitchen and garden for inspiration: Witch hazel and snowdrops offered the only glimpse of colour in the garden. The […]

One of our generous neighbours offered us a pheasant, and having never cooked a pheasant before I jumped at the chance. Although he was a beautiful thing, carrying him back home felt a little odd. His soft feathers and firm weightiness made it feel like I was carrying a pet, rather than something for dinner. […]

Something for Shrove Tuesday or a Weekend breakfast: A light as a cloud, honey pancake that has whipped egg white folded in for extra oomph!

Although there is generally a lot of baking on Things{we}make I am lucky that it is a joint venture and that Ed understands my need to show you my bagels. I like that he knows how to make a good-looking filling of pastrami, pea shoots and horseradish. It is most important that he will fill […]

A self-imposed healthy eating plan over the last few months has put many foods out of our reach. Due to spending too much time watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives we keep craving big dirty sandwiches like the ‘Reuben‘. Today we could stand it no longer so I tweeted the loaf and asked if they had baked any rye […]

Ever since Ed had eaten steaming hotpot on a trip to Japan he wanted to try cooking one at home. I spotted @Jaxies blogpost beautifully descriptive post about ‘Shabu Shabu’ and her nostalgia and memories of eating it as a child. It is a kind of hot pot where you cook thinks in a flavoured broth, like […]

I had long thought that stewing beef would work well in a slow cooked curry, but it was only recently that I tried it out. I’m pleased to report that it works very, very well. The meat is soft and delicious, the potatoes take on the subtle flavours of the spices and the coconut milk […]

I am heading down (or is it up?) to London on Friday for the ‘Let’s Make Christmas’ Blogger Gift Swap at Fortnum and Mason arranged by Vanessa Kimbell. Each year my Mum used to take me Christmas shopping in London on the train. We finished the day at the theatre watching something like West Side […]
