Love the pictures and the blog entry. I’ve just ordered one of those coops but after ordering it I’m a bit nervous after reading other people say how flimsy it is. I’m trying to justify it by thinking you get what you pay for and if I really enjoy the chickens then I can buy a more sturdy house later.. Anyway, good luck/

Hi ztolley. It is definitely a case of you get what you pay for, but although we could have made or bought something much more sturdy, to be honest we think the house is pretty good. It seems small but as long as the girls are let out during the day the house is more than they need.
We did immediately add one thing, we stapled on a bit of ‘flashing’ (just some waterproof material) where the next box meets the house as there does seem to be a bit of a ‘drip gap’ there. I also put a small shim under the slide out metal base to reduce the chance of water wicking in.
We may extend/rebuild in the future but this will do us a year or two. Hope you now have your house and all goes well. We are loving having our chickens pottering round the garden.

Coop arrived Friday, spent the weekend painting it (after all the rain we have had) and moved 4 chickens in on Sunday night, so far so good… 8 eggs in 2 days. Now learning the fine art of getting them back in the coop after some time in the garden. Kids love em. Good note about the flashing, though we had a downpour today and although the gap is big its still dry inside, possibly a little draughty at the far end of the tray but a bit of hey will help there. I’ve put up some pictures

Glad all is going well. Ours have had a bit of a laying hiccup this week…plus a friend 10 doors down has had all 8 of her hens disappear in the night which is a bit scary! All part of the deal I guess. Keep in touch. I can’t open that link to your pics I’m afraid.
