Although there is generally a lot of baking on Things{we}make I am lucky that it is a joint venture and that Ed understands my need to show you my bagels. I like that he knows how to make a good-looking filling of pastrami, pea shoots and horseradish. It is most important that he will fill […]

Over the last month members of ‘Fresh From The Oven‘ have been baking my Cinnamon Bun recipe. The FFTO site now shows all the entrants here but I wanted to show you my pick of the bunch. I am delighted that so many people put their own slant on the recipe. After all that’s how recipes are developed […]

It occured to me that some of you may be getting bored of my monthly bread baking posts for Fresh From the Oven. So I will try to keep it brief and breezy but I won’t be offended if you don’t look at it. Stop looking. You don’t need to see this. Are you still here? […]

Here is the result of August’s Fresh From The Oven baking challenge: Brioche. As the recipe in The River Cottage Bread Guide says it is a very wet dough. It’s a real ‘stir it with a wooden spoon’ job rather than ‘knead it on the worktop.’ Eventually with the addition of a good handful of […]

This months Fresh From The Oven bread baking challenge was for a Wholemeal Walnut Bread. I have a confession. I don’t like walnuts. That’s not strictly true. It’s January. As I write this we are only 9 days into the month and I have already completed this month’s baking challenge for Fresh From The Oven. I’m a good girl I am. I was nervous about starting this challenge it as it look quite complicated but as Eddie Izzard once said you should go towards […]

This month’s “Fresh From The Oven” challenge was to make a Stollen. Now I have to admit to reservations about this one. Not least that I don’t like marzipan, but I also knew things would be quite hectic on the run up to Christmas and that I would not have chance to get it done. […]

The Fresh From The Oven (FFTO) Challenge for November was set by ‘Goodshoeday” from with knife and fork blog. It is a White Tin Loaf that uses Dan Lepard’s kneading method and has milk in the recipe to keep it soft and slightly sweet. It was quite a nice challenge to have as although the bread […]

My second challenge for the Fresh From the Oven Bread Baking Group was something I had seen in Richard Bertinet’s book: Soup Bowls made of bread dough. He had the idea after getting an indian takeaway and thinking how unappetising it looked in the plastic trays. Corry of Bake it Off has taken Richard’s recipe […]
