As regular readers will know, we’re nearing the end of the house refurb, just finishing off the last few minor rooms…but DAMMIT I wish one of you had told me I should have started here. For the last 10 years I’ve been working my way round the house, only to realise that one of the last rooms to be done probably should have been the first.
The utility room is only the freaking hub of the Sutton universe, where all activities, humans, animals, deliveries and general comings and goings seem to focus. Who knew.
I had this idea of drawing a sort of network diagram to show all the reasons why people and things pass through the utility room, but it ended up looking like an explosion in a spaghetti factory, so in place of my diagram just imagine that.
Too much detail is probably not necessary here, but suffice to say I now realise this is the most chicken feeding, pant washing, noodle storing, skateboard fetching, dog biscuiting, boot cleaning, workshop entering, vegetable cleaning, bin emptying, wine storing-est room in the house.
Amen to that.

Wow, what a change! It looks beautiful and I’m sure will make the more mundane tasks in your life much more fun. LOVE the tomato tins propping the shelf up.. Glad to see you’ve got the spirits on the top shelf where G can’t reach them. Funnily enough we too are just embarking on our utility makeover after 7 years of putting up with the mess in there..so its not just you..T

Oh wow. I love the butcher block counter top over your washer/dryer. And you’re pantry shelves are beautiful. Funny how a clean and organized utility room can bring such joy.
