This week we went strawberry picking at Scaddows Farm, Ticknall.
It was a real nostalgia trip for me as I used to go there as a kid.
In those days they were known as ‘Ted Moults Strawberry Fields’
Y’know…That bloke off the Everest double glazing telly adverts back in the 80’s?
I love the fact that the vintage till from his days is still in use!
We picked (and ate) FAR too many strawberries so I need to think of something to make with them now.

A lovely afternoon out in the sunshine plus ice cream on the way home.

Fab photos. I nearly went there this morning, but got side-tracked. Their asparagus is good along with their raspberries.

Thanks Jules. I think we might have to take a trip back when the raspberries are ready!

Just made strawberry sorbet, recipe on the guardian a few weeks ago. A tad sweet for my sweet but pretty damn fine

hmm…I was planning to make elderflower sorbet (off the Fennel and Fern site) with my elderflower cordial. I bet strawberry and elderflower sorbet would be good. Or I might make both!

I too have happy memories of PYO strawberry picking. Fabulous pictures, that first one even looks like it might have been taken in 1985 when I last went!
On a sadder note, I didn’t know Ted Moult committed suicide? My favourite advert was the Blackpool Tower one. I thought the helicopter was from the Barratts’ ads… I was distraught when we moved into a Barratts’ house but there was no helicopter landing in the street!!!

You might be right Sarah, perhaps I have mixed up my Barratts and my Everest! I added some ‘vintage’ to that first photo so it harped back to my childhood. Glad it worked.

i hope that third photo ends up in a frame at your house, it certainly deserves one!

Ah, thanks! We tend not to put photos on the wall. Perhaps we should.

Absolutely lovely photos! We used to go pick (eat) our own as kid’s too. That old till is almost too nice to use…

Thanks Tom. Summer days like that seem like a distant memory. I love all the stuff on your site!
