All over now

Ambergate Carnival 2009 is now complete. Although I have reached saturation point on all things Carnival I thought I should write a short post to commemorate it. I was busy in the parade and arena all day so was not able to take any photographs myself so I have included some of John Armstrong-Prior’s photos. There are many more great photo’s here.

The sun gods listened to our pleas and the forecast of heavy rain was proved wrong. This made the day for us as it allowed people to sit on the grass and relax in the sunshine and enjoy the whole afternoon.

As always the J C Balls Digger Dance was a great draw. Who doesn’t love watching a Dancing JCB? Magical Mayhem also put on two great shows as did all the other performers. The parade drew out the locals and brought them to the Carnival ground to the opening by Bob the Builder.

Some of my favourite bits were little moments, like when I looked across and saw that lots of children had been across to the Skymagic stall and had made their own kites. They were running around in the digger arena flying their creations in the sunshine. An unexpected little free activity.

It was an exhausting week that was nearly a year in the making, but I hope the people of Ambergate enjoyed it, as I have decided it will be my first and last year as Carnival Chairman!
